I was asked to give a short theoretical overview on electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources (pdf slides can be downloaded <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B0skkzsOCFtsS2tXc3VwaWc3Q0E\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>). The focus of the meeting was to better understand the important role that the Italian Astrophysical Research Institute (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inaf.it\/it\" target=\"_blank\">INAF<\/a>) can play in the gravitational wave era.
